How the Checkmate Puzzle Solver Works

Set up any chess position by dragging pieces onto the board or pasting a FEN string, choose which side is to move, and the solver puts the Stockfish engine to work finding a forced checkmate — trying mate in 1, then 2, and so on up to the search depth you pick.

If a forced mate exists within that depth, you'll get the full move-by-move sequence with an on-board replay so you can step through exactly how it unfolds. If Stockfish can't find one within the depth searched, it'll tell you so plainly rather than guess.
